Mental health and substance use disorders can affect people from all walks of life and age groups. The existence of both mental health and substance use disorders is often called Dual-Diagnosis, or Co-Occurring Disorders. These disorders can be acute or progress over time. Addiction is not a moral failing or a personality flaw, it’s the result of trauma, pain, and often hurt.  People struggling with substance use often have found some of the best, but ultimately worse ways to cope, and due to this struggle to stop their use. The ingestion of drugs and alcohol causes chemical alterations in our brain and body; this is often referred to as a “mental hijacking” of our brain, which leads to the inability for anyone to just stop. Substance-use disorders (SUDs) can cause clinically significant impairment, including health problems, relationship, and occupational issues, and even trigger other mental health concerns. Regardless, recovery is possible with the right tools, motivation, and support.

In our work together, you will come to a very intimate understanding of the reasons for your use, how it affects your brain, mind, and body, and the support you need while discovering your new path and limiting the negative effects of your use.
